How to rename files in batches

FILE FLOW creates renamed copies for download. It cannot rename or delete originals in a folder on your computer. Use the preview to check every proposed name before saving.

Create a naming pattern

  1. Select files or drop them into the tool.
  2. Enter a common name such as footage. Enable dates or numbering if needed.
  3. For a flexible pattern, use {name}, {date} and {num}, for example {date}_{name}_{num}.
  4. Check the preview and download individual copies or a ZIP.

Clean names and choose order

Find and replace changes matching text in the original name. You can remove spaces, replace them with underscores or hyphens, and change letter case. Choose a sorting option or select Manual order to drag rows. The extension filter accepts comma-separated values such as jpg, png, pdf. Downloads and numbering follow the visible selection.

Add dates and numbers

Choose a custom date or each file's modified date. A modified date is not necessarily the date a photo was taken. Set a starting and ending number large enough for your batch. Numbers beyond the end produce an error that must be fixed before ZIP download.

Check duplicate contents

The duplicate check compares SHA-256 hashes of file contents. Two differently named files can contain the same bytes; two visually similar pictures can have different bytes and will not be marked as identical. The check labels duplicates but does not automatically delete files. Remove unwanted entries from the list yourself.

A practical naming workflow

For a delivery of edited photographs, filter the final image extension, arrange the order, choose a short project name and add sequence numbers. Download the rename-list CSV as a record of old and new names, then save the ZIP and open it to confirm the contents. Keep originals until the delivery is checked.

Frequently asked questions

What are the limits?

Up to 500 files, 100 MB per file and 300 MB in total. ZIP creation and duplicate checking use device memory, so try smaller batches if processing fails.

Why is a filename rejected?

Conflicting names, reserved system names, unsupported characters, overly long names or an insufficient number range can block saving. The preview shows the affected rows. Names that differ only in letter case are treated as conflicts.

Does Remove delete the original?

No. It removes the entry from this workspace. The original on your computer remains unchanged.

Can I return to my workspace later?

The workspace is not automatically saved. Download your ZIP and CSV before closing or refreshing the page.
